MY SMALL COUNTRY

in this blog we did really interesting and amazing work, we imagined your house as a vessel. every vessel have different meaning to me.

when i think of your home, my mind is filled with different thoughts such as happiness, warmth, love, security and contentment. its like more than just four walls and roof above your head and a place to eat and sleep, but its where relationship with people are developed and where some of your biggest life events happen.

so, i represent my house as my small country and room into that shows by cities. above picture shows my emotions and feelings attached to my country. according to me my country is mix of feeling, sometime is feel home sick, no judgements nothing. when my family gathering happen we always talked about my childhood memories and event and this make us nostaigia. my used the word woody and glassy because my country is made up of woods and glass and it always give the feel of vintage but classy place. then i used word noisy, as i lived on main road and it is always busy and noisy most of the time. in short my small country is perfect.

above picture shows rough sketch of my small country first floor plan. this will help to know more about the vessel and greater view and sense of emotions.

in my country i have food city we is normally owned and controlled by my mommy, i feel with city requires a lot of patience and hardwork. food city have really large glass wall, and normally this place have sufficient amount of light throughout the day by natural and artificial source of light.

Netflix and chill city is very flexible we also binge watch there and when there guest came it function as living room and it have home theatre. this city is usually dark and very opened due to its size.

car city is my favourite place because i love cars, and i love to spend time there cleaning it and riding it. car city is 3 sided closed place and i feel real self with car.

other city is like guest room which is not used city, it very very adaptable and flexible. it usually work as storage place for my mommy.

multi tasking city is definitely my favourite city in my country, its my grand parents place, i usually spend most of my time there enjoying with them. in this city i feel most secured and loved. i feel more cozyness and stress free. this city is most brighter place as it is east sided as placed lot of sunlight and right outside it have garden.

this was very interesting process for me to learn vessels with emotions. how every place have different essence of belongingness and experience. i love it.

walls

walls are the structure that makes a division between two domains of life I.e. open and private. They likewise give a feeling of visual fenced in area to the eyes of the watcher yet they can likewise be constrained hindrances that stop one network of individuals to connect with another. walls have transformed into spaces that in the event that they are sufficiently thick, at that point they can be pushed inside or outside to make spaces.

as talking about walls, we did similar model making in class we have to take the cardboard in ratio 4:1 and then bent it to create space. it was not a easy task to understand, but as i stated doing it, it made sense. then we have to flod strips of cardboard agaib but this time we have make them in section. then in last step, we have to combine both pervious step and make a new model, basically we have to make new sections of the walls into them.

black door- portals

From my childhood i always saw a flying door in my dreams, i used to call them black door, they are usually on the height and there are some steps and it seems like door is flying because door is not attached to anything, and they are always black in color and beam of light coming from the other side, as i child i used to think they was some other world behind that door, but i never get a chance to travel what so called other world.

But after knowing about portal, i could connect them easily, portals is an opening  in a wall of a building, especially a grand entrance to an important structure and same is my black door.

This time we have to make two portals, one for the body and other for the eye. we were given some piece of cardboard which would work as our materials for making portals. making portals with piece of cardboard was not easy, at first i wasnt able to understand anything expect that black door, i was figuring that how will i make that black door with piece of cardboard. then first i figured about my scaling device, what helped understand the scale for building structure. then i chose a thumb pin as my scaling object, as it can be move easily. then i choose paper cup upper part to make portal for the body and for the eye i choose small plastic circular piece. they was conditions that not to use to much fevicol or other gluing stuffs, so i cut the cardboard and tried to do interlocking it with cardboard and its worked.

AXIS

axis is an imaginary line that is used to arrange a group of elements. An axis is a line which is established between 2 points in a space about which other spaces and buildings can be arranged.

when the architect use axis in their design it acts like a straight arrow on a sign, pointing in the right direcftion. for example- taj mahal at agra is planned by following the axis as a focal point to an entrance doorway so that the building is focused on the central tomb chamber.

In class I learnt about the axis through task of model making, building axes and making it was interesting task. In this activity we went on masking simple axis to complex axis and by connecting it through emotion. We have to choose 5-6 items by which we can make our model. Your activity was divided into 3 parts. First I have to create simple axis, so I kept 5 different object with different height types in a row, then we were asked to work on the proportions of objects and replace the object, then I arranged the object according to the height of object in order to make axis and in the final step I placed the objects on each other and also attached the emotion of “craving”. Craving is a desire of something, it could be anything, so I connect my axis through craving of height as I worked on proportions of the objects, there are many objects of different heights and all the small objects want to become like bottle. As shown in my last model making.

after model making i had clear view of axis and path and learnt many things.

Pastoral nomads and their movement’s

Nomads are the person with no fixed homes, moving place to place to obtain food, finding pastures for their livestock. Most of the nomads mainly lived in tents and they traditionally travel by animals or on foot. These nomadic  pastoralists moved with fleet of sheep, herds of goats, camels and cattle. Finding pastures for their cattle was major concern for their constant movement. These nomads moved between summer and  winter in order to graze their herds. During winter they move towards low hills as in winter high mountains are covered with snow. In summer they start trekking towards northern mountains as snow melt  mountains start converting into thick lush grass. This provides ample pastures for the herds. Just like Gujjars bakarwals from Jammu and Kashmir they move to Siwalik range, low hill areas in winter and by the end of April they began marching to nothern march for summer grazing, Their journey is called kafila. Again they started their journey to their winter base. This systematic movement between summer and winter pastures is same as other communities of the Himalayas, including the Bhotiyas, Sherpas and Kinnauris.

Pastoralists are also found on plateaus, plains and deserts of india. In Maharashtra, Dhangars were an important pastoral community who were mostly, shepherds and blanket weavers.

Raikas from deserts of Rajasthan, they travel suring the monsoons, the raikas of jodhpur and jaisalmer mainly stay in the village, where pasture in easily available for cattle. By October, they moved for search of pasture and for water and again came back in next monsoon.

Pastoral life is not at all easy, it is host my many factors like how much time herd are comfortable on one area, they have to figured out the timing for the movement and make sure they cover their destinations one time and they have to set their realtionship with the local farmers on the way so that cattle could graze in harvested field.

Colonial rule completely changed pastoral nomads life. There movements was regulated and  their revenue increased. This happen due to many reasons, waste land rule was enacted in various countries, under this rule uncultivated land was taken over and were given to selected individuals.

Forest act was also major reason in various provinces, under this act forest was classified into 2 parts reserved and protected, and pastoralists entry got restricted to many forest. Other reason was taxation, taxation was imposed on the land, on water, on salt and even on the animals and after some time government started collecting grazing taxes from them.

Due to these measures, there was short of pastures. Soon grazing land start converting into cultivated fields, which causes decline for grazing field. This in turn creates shortage for animals and for livestock.

Pastoralists reacted in many ways, they reduced the number of cattle and some richer pastoralists brought land and settled down and this cause giving up their nomadic life. On the other hand, poor pastoralists lend money from the moneylenders and survive and started working in trading. New laws forced them to alter their lives.

Pastoral communities were effected difficultly in different countries. Their movement was affected by new rules and regulations and find it difficult for grazing and for posture. During the time of droughts and floods cattle die in large number and this made them survival more bitter.

Its not about life full of discomfort, its ways of creating comfort.
